CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES
Get involved after school at Brooklawn!
Co-curricular Clubs
and Activities are important part of the overall Middle School experience, where students
grow socially as well as academically. Most of our Clubs and
Activities meet from 2:45-3:45, with a 4:00 bus provided for
transportation each day. Specific meeting times and places are
usually part of the daily morning or afternoon announcements - students
should carefully listen during homeroom and at the beginning of
Period 9.
A list of our current Clubs and Activities is
provided below, updated with 2011-2012 information if provided. For more specific information about a particular Club or
Activity, please contact the listed Advisor.

Tryouts in Spring for following year |
|
| Updated 9/28/2011: The Fall Comedy holds auditions in late May and June for two performances the following October. Because of the early performance dates, 6th graders may only be involved in stage craft for this play. The plays are all one act original comedies written by Mr. Fasciana, and promote moral themes in storylines. The plays use simple sets, smaller casts and quick dialogue to weave together themes that affect students in middle school. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to try out their acting skills, build self-confidence and work together for a common goal. |

| Updated 9/28/2011: MathCounts is a club open to any student (no prerequisites to participate) which runs from September until May, meeting each Friday after school. It offers a variety of higher level thinking type math problems to students who have an interest in math or who would just like to improve their math skills. There are no tests or quizzes; students work at their own pace on worksheets that become progressively harder. Many students come with their friends and work together. There is a MathCounts competition on a Saturday in February, where Brooklawn competes against other schools in northern New Jersey. If successful there, we can go on to compete at the state and possibly even national level. In December, there is a test given to all who are interested in competing. The top scoring students are chosen for the team. Brooklawn has historically done well in the competition, and the students who participate enjoy the experience. Being part of the team is NOT a requirement for participating in the club. Students not interested in being in the competition are still welcome to come all year, enjoy some fun, and fine tune their math skills. |
