Kindergarten

Kindergarten is a true milestone in the life of a child.

The Parsippany Troy Hills School District offers a full-day kindergarten program. Full-day kindergarten provides children a setting where teachers can understand how children learn. The range of young children's development at this age is great. It is possible that the range of development in one classroom could be as much as three years.

How does a teacher teach to this wide range of development? - with great care. Your child will be met exactly where he/she is. We do not expect that a child is coming into school at any particular level. No matter where your child is on the continuum, that is where he/she will be met.

The objective of the instructional program focuses on all areas of a child's development - physical, social, emotional, and intellectual. The emphasis placed on play, as a medium through which young children learn, is a regular aspect of the program. This hands-on program incorporates Learning Centers that provide a balance between teacher directed and child centered activities.

One important point I would like to emphasize is that your child's reactions to his/her new setting should be viewed by you in the context of just that - something new. You know how your child adjusts to changes and can best prepare him/her for this new experience. I encourage you to listen, to understand his/her feelings in the light of the newness of his/her experiences, and react calmly with support and encouragement. Always be upbeat in your conversations about school. Your child must never think you are nervous or sad about the fact that he/she is entering kindergarten.

We welcome you and your child to Eastlake School. We truly believe "Childhood is a Journey, Not a Race. " Let's enjoy this journey with your children.
