*** TOGETHER WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE ***

The Lake Hiawatha School provides a safe and nurturing environment for children in preschool – fifth grade. Our highly qualified staff offers a comprehensive instructional program that addresses the needs of our culturally diverse student body and that motivates and challenges our students. Our students, parents and staff work cooperatively to build a warm and caring community of self-confident, responsible learners.

The staff at the Lake Hiawatha School has high expectations for its students as may be seen by the challenging activities in all curricula areas. The language arts program provides many opportunities for the integration of reading, writing, speaking and listening skills within the curriculum and across the curricula with social studies, science, health, music and art. The mathematics program focuses on problem solving and critical thinking skills. Reading and mathematics are top priorities all year long at the Lake Hiawatha School as is demonstrated by the many reading/math incentive programs that take place from September – June.

The science program provides many hands-on experiences using multimedia science equipment. The social studies program includes instruction in geography, history and the social sciences using hands-on and technology activities. A broad range of talented specialists challenge and support the children with programs such as physical education, art, vocal and instrumental music, world languages, ESL, computer technology, media, guidance, speech/language, occupational and physical therapy, basic skills math, reading and a gifted program.

The school year will bring continued academic challenges, Kindergarten Registration, NJASK Testing, many field trips, cultural arts programs and our fifth grade Camp Happiness, Recognition of Achievement, Moving Up and Clap Out activities.

A close working relationship between the school and parents is vitally important for the success of the school. Our PTA provides volunteers who work on a weekly basis with the teachers, in the media center and in the lunch program. It also sponsors cultural arts programs and educational field trips that enhance and support the instructional program. This is a dedicated group of parents who give generously of their time, energy and money to support the children in the Lake Hiawatha School.

As usual, we ask for your continued support. Remember our motto,

“Together we make a difference.”
