Mrs. Gesuelli, Ms. Schauder, and Mrs. Waite

You wouldn't believe how independent our first graders are becoming. We're always reading, writing interesting stories, and learning many new math concepts. This month we will be tying that learning in with many themes.
Mathematics:
The children continue to learn addition and subtraction concepts and strategies. Manipulatives continue to be used to help understand these various strategies. We hope you are reviewing addition and math facts at home with your children on a daily basis, so they will know their facts automatically. We are identifying position words, congruent figures and lines of symmentry.
Language Arts:
Students are identifying characteristics of a story and incorporating the spring holidays in our creative writing and art lessons. We are encouraging and guiding our students to begin their journey on the path to becoming life-long readers and writers.
Science:
Of course, we will be discussing how animals, nature, and people are all affected by the coming of spring.
Social Studies:
We have been exploring our community and country, learning about laws and our government leaders. We will identify American heroes and prepare a presentation for the class.
Your encouragement and assistance at home is invaluable in helping the children meet the many goals we have set for them.
