GRO - The Gifted Reach-Out Program

SPRING - 2012
First, Second & Third Grades: Hear Ye! Hear Ye!
Our Medieval Festival on March 21st was a complete success and loads of
fun! The PAL Building was transformed into a Castle’s Great Room while kings, queens, lords, ladies, princesses, princes, minstrels, jesters, knights, and jugglers roamed the great hall entertaining us all! The day ended with a medieval feast and a demonstration of the art of falconry and a special visit from two gentlemen knights who presented an array of authentic armor and weaponry.
Fourth Grade: SHAKESPEARE!
March 7th was an exciting and memorable day for all Fourth Grade GRO students. Our Shakespearean play was held in ourvery own Globe Theater. After an extensive study of the life and times of William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar was performed to a delighted audience of staff, students, and parents. Congratulations to all my students for outstanding performances!
Fifth Grade: The BRAIN!
Welcome to the BRAIN! The world inside your head! In this unit of study
students are investigating neurons, synapses, and the brain-body connection. Fifth graders are examining images of human brains and learning about specific regions of the brain and how these regions regulate body functions. Students are exploring the many ways in which your brain gets you through the day, at home, at school, and at play. Terms such as cerebellum, hippocampus, occipital lobe, cerebral cortex, parietal lobe, temporal lobe, and frontal lobe are being defined, discussed, and understood. An in-class project of the brain is soon to be exhibited in the hallway at Littleton School.
