Miss Kontogiannis and Miss Markt
Reading:
Who will believe that in a few short months those former reluctant and shy Kindergartners will be first graders? Their reading skills have developed and many students are busy working on decoding words. They are so proud when that decoding has turned into reading and understanding of an actual book. Whether through reading groups, whole class stories or cooperative learning, the children are eager to crack the code and read.
Mathematics:
Kindergartners will be working with rulers, scales, clocks, and thermometers as they explore measurement. Graphing, geometry, and fractions will be introduced. Identifying shapes and symmetry is so much fun. We will become familiar with hexagons, pentagons, octagons, and 3D shapes. Display your soup cans, baseballs, and tissue boxes to prepare your child for shapes such as cones, spheres, rectangular prisms, and cones.
Science:
The kindergartners have blasted off into Space, and they are learning about the planets and the Sun. Upon returning from Space, our next exploration will be the Rainforest. Watch out for low flying toucans and hopping re-eyed tree frogs! We will surely see them when we visit the Rainforest Cafe in May.
Clowns, elephants, jugglers... we will view them all at the Shrine Circus. Trapeze artists, popcor, and fun are what we look forward in May.
As Spring approaches we look forward to watching your children continue to bloom.
