The media center program aims to develop and foster a love of reading in all students. Our students will learn about the various genres such as mystery, historical fiction, realistic fiction, fairy tales, biographies, autobiographies, science fiction, and poetry. Students will be encouraged to read and experience each genre to see what they enjoy most. They will also be introduced to the Caldecott and Newbery award winning books. A great variety of leisure and curriculum related resources are available in our media center.  The children will check out books every two weeks during their media class time!

The media program incorporates emerging technologies in order to prepare students to function in an information age. Students in the lower grades will become familiar with the program Kidspiration and other online websites where they can read or listen to stories.  The students in grades two through five will be shown how to navigate and utilize our online catalog and will be instructed how to access it from home. They will be taught how to search various online databases and how to use online and print encyclopedias.  The third to fifth graders will also gain knowledge of how the Dewey Decimal System is organized so that they can locate non-fiction print materials independently. The media program hopes to instill a love of learning that will remain with students throughout their lives.
