Student Achievements
Key Club Success at Annual NJ Convention 201220 members of the PHHS Key Club, along with their advisors Bonnie Sturm and Cathy Jo Speidel, attended the 66th Annual NJ District Key Club Convention the weekend of March 30 - April 1, 2012 at the Ocean Place in Long Branch, NJ. The following awards were won by club members: Distinguished President: Samantha Wu
Distinguished Vice-President: Hazel Magbitang
Distinguished Secretary: Selina Luong and Jonathan Gerstl
Distinguished Treasurer: Kelly Zhang
Distinguished Club Bulletin Editor: Michelle Ting and Judy Zhang Hazel Magbitang was awarded one of the highly coveted Kiwanis International Foundation Leadership Scholarships in the amount of $1000. Eva Cavanaugh was awarded the “Golden Member” award, which is given to one general member per club who, in the opinion of the club advisors and president, has provided a significant contribution to the club over the past service year. A huge honor to the club came in the installation of Penny Xu as Division 19's Lieutenant Governor of the New Jersey District of Key Club. As a district board member, she will be actively involved in the Key Club activities of the 5 schools in our division; Parsippany Hills, Parsippany High, Mountain Lakes, Montville and Morristown. Her responsibilities will include maintaining clear lines of communication between the New Jersey Executive Board and each club, organizing divisional projects, training new officers, and helping to lead the 2012-2013 service year.

| The Italian IV, IV Honors and Italian V AP classes brought home the first place trophy for their presentation, "A Day in the Life of Michelangelo Painting the Sistine Chapel," performed at the annual Italian Language and Culture Day Competition, held March 28th at Monclair State University. Twelve schools competed in this event which is sponsored by the Italian Teachers Association of New Jersey and the Elda and Joseph Coccia Foundation. |
On March 28, 2012 PHHS TSA members participated in the N.J. TSA State Conference, held at The College of New Jersey. (See attached flyer.) |
Sixteen students represented PHHS TSA in seventeen events.
PHHS had teams entered in the Construction Renovation, Struc-tural Engineering, Technology Problem Solving and Video Game Design events. Some of the individual events included Dragster Design, Future Technology Teacher, Photographic Technology, Promotional Graphics. |
Our members found success in two individual events. Junior, Tiffanie Leung finished in first place for her Essay on Technology. TSA club Vice-President, senor, Andy Kakkaramadan was awarded second place in Technical Sketching event. |
On March 23-24, the PHHS chapter of FCCLA(Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) attended their State Leadership Conference in Cherry Hill, NJ. The following students received the following awards: |
| In Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation; Jillian Atkins won a First Place Gold Medal and a bid to the National Conference in Orlando, Florida |
| In Fashion Runway-Sports wear; Ellen Miller won a First Place Gold Medal, a $3000 scholarship to Centenary College, and a $1000 scholarship to Johnson and Wales |
| In Fashion Runway-eveningwear: Varshita Yerva won a Gold Medal |
| In Entrepreneurship; Amber Lee and Shaina Kang won a Gold Medal |
| In Storybook Ethics: Anita Wai, Cassandra Rochelle, and Krishma Patel won a Gold Medal |
| For Program Cover Design and Successories: Vicky Xia won 2 Silver Medals, one for each event |

The team hosted their first scrimmage on October 15, 2011 at PHHS. The Nano-Guru Team won the Think Award which was only one of two judged events.
