Winter Weather Information
|
|
The unpredictable winter weather and hazardous road conditions sometime result in school closings, early dismissals and delayed openings.
Full day closings are posted on the district website www.pthsd.k12.nj.us and announced on television (News 12 New Jersey, Channel 4 NBC, 5 FOX, 7 ABC). Families are also encouraged to sign up for ED ALERT, the district's email and texting system.
As a courtesy, parents who provided their information to the PTA will also be notified via the PTA Telephone Squad. The PTA will ONLY make calls for unscheduled early dismissals. Please make sure you provide the PTA with updated information. Announcements and calls will be made in the early morning. For the safety of your children, it is essential for us to be able to reach you anytime during the school day.
If weather conditions warrant a school closing after the start of the school day, an EARLY DISMISSAL will be announced. Students will be dismissed at 12:55 PM. On these UNSCHEDULED early dismissal days due to inclement weather/emergency situations, PM SKIP is cancelled.
PLEASE BE PREPARED FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF EARLY DISMISSALS.
IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT PARENTS HAVE PLANS IN PLACE TO DEAL WITH CHILDCARE ISSUES ON THESE DAYS. UNLESS THE SCHOOL IS NOTIFIED DIFFERENTLY, THE CHILDREN WILL FOLLOW THEIR USUAL END OF DAY PROCEDURES.
When inclement weather necessitates a DELAYED OPENING,
the delay will be TWO HOURS.
The Delayed Opening school day for students is 10:55 AM - 3:25 PM.
AM SKIP is cancelled on delayed opening days. (PreSchool: Morning class 11am - 1pm, and Afternoon class 1-3pm.) Buses/Vans will pick up students approximately two hours later than usual. Students should be at their bus stops 10 minutes prior to that time.
Please DO NOT drop students off at school until AFTER 10:45 AM. Students will not be supervised nor permitted to enter the building before that time.
Please also make sure your children are dressed appropriately for the weather. In the absence of inclement weather, poor playground conditions, or strong winds, the children will go outdoors each day for a short recess. Warm coats, mittens, and hats are suggested for recess time.
