Spring Classes

8 Hours of Completed Technology Classes = 1 Local Credit.
You also get credit towards your 100 Hours.

Please read all of the following information carefully:

If you wish to attend a class, you must register in advance. Registrations will be accepted online ONLY. Login with pthsd\username and email password.

Classes that do not have at least six registered attendees one week (7days) prior to the course date will be cancelled. Consequently, please register as early as possible.

It is permissible to register up to the last minute, but realize that if you wait, you may find that the class you want has been cancelled due to low enrollment or that it is full. The earlier you register, the better. You will be notified via district email if your registered course is cancelled.

You may unregister for a course by going to the district training site, select the course you want to unregister for and click My Registration. Below the message that you are already registered for the course is a link to click to unregister for the course. Please be sure to unregister if you find that you cannot attend the course.


IMPORTANT NOTE: PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS WITH THE DATES OF THE CLASSES FOR WHICH YOU HAVE REGISTERED.

Please remember the following:

  1. to register for classes you want to take. Showing up for a class without registering is not acceptable.
  2. to unregister as soon as possible, if you find that you cannot attend a class for which you have registered.
  3. to be on time to class. The instructor is not permitted to sign off on your Local Credit form unless you arrive on time. We know that some elementary schools dismiss at 3:20, but please do your best to get to the class as quickly after dismissal as possible.
  4. to plan to stay until the class is officially over. The instructor is not permitted to sign off on your Local Credit form unless you complete the class.
  5. to observe common courtesy as it relates to cell phones, chatting with your friends, etc.

About PREREQUISITES: This term simply means that in order to feel comfortable in any class, one should have experience with the prerequisites that are listed. There are, however, no actual entry requirements for taking any of these classes. If you have not taken a prerequisite but feel that you can handle the class, then you are welcome to register for it.

Use Your Noodle to Moodle: No need to muddle in Moodle, come explore how to easily setup a webpage that is perfect for your classroom. From web publishing templates, to modifying your profile, adding and removing components, including a class calendar, email lists and automatic alerts, blogs, discussion forums, wikis, forms, surveys, a digital drop box, and much more. During this session all participants will complete and post their first Moodle Web page. Attendees will be able to choose from the above activities and assignments, or explore a wide variety of components to individualize their web page according to their classroom goals. Prerequisite: none

Intro. To Mac (Leveraging your Mac) - All PTHSD schools have access either Macbooks or  20” iMac computer labs. Learn all of the tips, tricks, and classroom management hints to take advantage of them! From the new OSX – 10.6, to files, folders, locations, operating systems benefits, and hints that make guiding a class through a project a breeze. Leave with the hints and templates you need to make teaching with your new mac a successful part of your teaching strategy.

iLife – ’09 - Introduction! After you’ve taken a few pictures (with your own digital camera – please bring cords), you’ll learn how to: import, organize, and share them with others.  Then you’ll get to explore making a short movie with iMovie – ’09, and add a little accompaniment with your own Garage Band –’09.

iMovie 09 is an amazingly professional program to create High Definition movies for amateur movie makers. Come learn how to: create projects, organize your video clips into events and keep event libraries, understand video skimming, playback and selection tools, assemble, adjust, and reorder clips in your project. Additionally learn how to add transition, background audios, apply themes to your movie, customize theme transitions, and finally learn how to share them with others by burning them onto DVDs or sharing them over the Internet.

Digital Imaging with Google’s Picasa – Learn how to take a better digital photo using your camera’s scene settings, then get the pictures from camera to computer so you can organize, edit, archive and share using Google’s program called Picasa. Prerequisite: Basic computer use

Using PhotoStory for Digital StoryTelling
Using PhotoStory a free download from Microsoft, students can quickly & easily create presentations on almost any topic. Using images, music, text, & narration students can create a living report that tells a story rather than simply listing facts. This program is perfect for the teacher who wants to incorporate multimedia presentations into classroom projects without spending weeks doing so. Prerequisite: None

PowerPoint  for MAC Refresher – If you’re using a Macbook, take this class to get solutions on how to use PowerPoint which is part of Office for MAC. Learn how to add new slide layouts, add and edit text, change a transition, get your bulleted text to come in one at a time, add sound, and record then insert video from your Macbook. This is a great class to take for those who need to learn how to use Power Point in a MAC lab. Prerequisite: Basic knowledge of PowerPoint in Office for MAC

MAC & Office 2008; Tips, Tricks & Shortcuts – If you’re using a Macbook or in a MAC lab, this is the class you requested.  This class shows you how to do the everyday tasks quicker and easier. During this 2-hour session, you will learn quick tips to repeat the same formatting, use keyboard shortcuts, select multiple pages of text, and many more! If the new version of Office for MAC has been frustrating you, this class is a must! Prerequisite: Basic MAC knowledge

PowerPoint  2007 Refresher – If you’ve been trying to learn or have been using PowerPoint on a Windows PC, take this class to get solutions on how to change a transition, animate your bulleted text, add sound, record video from your tablet, and insert YouTube videos into your presentations. Word Whys 2007 - Did you ever wonder why things just seem to happen in Word? Why does the ribbon disappear? Why doesn’t the screen have any toolbar buttons and how can I get them? Why text doesn’t wrap around a graphic? Why a numbered list automatically appears? Why the first letter of a line automatically becomes capitalized? Word does so many quirky things sometimes. Come learn how to correct it. Prerequisite: Word I

Publisher Booklets & Programs – Microsoft Publisher is a great program to use for creating documents such as booklets and programs that you can distribute at back-to-school night and at concerts. In Publisher, your text is automatically formatted so that it folds just right when creating the booklet. And the position of graphics and text in the program is arranged for you. It’s that easy! Take this class and learn how to prepare these types of files for the new school year. Prerequisite: Basic computer knowledge

Google Sites – Take this class to learn Google’s newest online application that makes creating a group website as easy as editing a document. With Google Sites, you can quickly gather information in one place. You can include videos, calendars, presentations, attachments, and text and then share it for viewing or editing with a small class, organization, school or the world. Prerequisite: Basic internet knowledge

Intro to Microsoft Moviemaker– It seems that a big part of the technology we see and hear has to do with the use of multimedia. This 8-hour course focuses on using a medley of still photos, sound and video clips. Take this class to see how easy it can be to create, edit, and add special effects to your movies using Windows Movie Maker. See how the movies play in Windows Media Player. Learn to import digital pictures, import audio & video content, including adding titles, video transitions, effects, and/or clips from a soundtrack. At the completion of the course, you’ll leave with your own movie on CD.  It’s a great skill to learn prior to the beginning of a new school year. Prereq: Basic computer use and comfort level using digital photos.
