Lake Par has been doing an author study with Trinka Hakes Noble during the Distance Learning time. This week she spent about an hour in each grade on a Zoom call discussing her literature and her writing process. Her literature ties in well with Calkins in that there are examples of personal narrative, realistic fiction, historical fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. She also discusses writing what you know and what you are interested in. What's even more fascinating is that she wrote a historical fiction set at the time of the 1918 pandemic. Her connection to the story was that she had to miss 4 weeks of school in the 1960's during the Asian Flu epidemic, and here we are yet again having a connection to the story and author.
